D1 Goldbacks Superbowl

The Goldbacks leaned on a relentless defense and a few key plays to secure a 14–7 victory over Valley Central in a hard-fought matchup this weekend.

From the opening whistle, the Goldbacks defense set the tone, smothering Valley Central’s offense throughout the first half. The only score before halftime came on a long touchdown run by Wesley Parks, giving the Goldbacks a 6–0 lead.

Both teams dug in defensively after the break, trading stops and big tackles in the third quarter. But the play of the game came early in the fourth quarter, when William Jackson delivered a thunderous hit on the Valley Central running back, causing a fumble—and then recovering it himself. The turnover swung momentum squarely in the Goldbacks’ favor.

Moments later, Carter Williams found the end zone, and Landon Brumskill drilled the two-point kick to make it 14–0 and put the pressure on Valley Central. Though VC managed to score a late touchdown, the Goldbacks offense smartly ran out the clock on the next possession to seal the win.

The defense was the story of the game, with standout performances from Santino Thurman, TJ Bell, Dallas Soliva, Matthew Haughton, Gavin McClain, and Brumskill—each recording multiple tackles. William Jackson led the team with a dominant performance on both sides of the ball.

Final Score: Goldbacks 14, Valley Central 7
