On August 3, 2024, OCYFL hosted its annual Coaches Clinic at Monticello High School, bringing together 92 youth coaches, 6 OCYFL board members, 5 presenters, and 3 referees—for a total of 106 attendees. This essential event continues to grow each year, reflecting our league’s commitment to education, collaboration, and leadership.
Cornwall Athletic Director Jason Semo opened the clinic with a powerful message about the ethics of coaching and the responsibility coaches have as role models for young athletes. Referee representative Ryan Griffith followed with an important session on the value of communication and cooperation between coaches and referees to foster a positive learning environment for players.
Our position-specific breakout sessions were led by top local coaching talent:
Running Backs – Bill Bianco, NFA Varsity Head Coach
Quarterbacks – Jason Semo, AD Cornwall
- Offensive & Defensive Line – Jack Cassel, Pine Bush Line Coach
Defensive Backs & Linebackers – Thomas Schlappick, Highland Head Coach and Kevin Rizzo, Highland Defensive Coordinator
A highlight of the day was our guest speaker, Isaac Cayetano, Offensive Coordinator at Monticello, who delivered a moving session titled “Coaching Boys to Men,” emphasizing the impact coaches have in shaping character beyond the field.
This clinic is a cornerstone of OCYFL’s mission to develop not just players, but leaders. We are incredibly grateful to all the high school and youth coaches who gave their time and knowledge to help our league’s coaches grow. Thanks to the strong attendance and positive feedback, we’re already planning for an even bigger and better Coaches Clinic in 2025.
